Terry would be applauded says Blatter
DETHRONED England captain John Terry received support from an unlikely source yesterday when outspoken Fifa president Sepp Blatter suggested his alleged infidelity would be applauded in Latin countries.
Terry was stripped of the England captaincy by head coach Fabio Capello after a week of lurid headlines over an alleged affair with the former partner of international team-mate Wayne Bridge.
But on the day when Terry flew out to Dubai for crunch talks with his wife Toni, Blatter, speaking in Vancouver for the International Olympic Committee’s session, joked that such off-the-field behaviour would have been deemed acceptable in countries such as France, Italy and Spain.
“Listen, this is a special approach in the Anglo-Saxon countries,” he said. “If this had happened in let’s say Latin countries then I think he would have been applauded.”
As Blatter was speaking, Terry boarded a flight to the Emirates to visit his wife and two children after being given special permission by Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti to miss tomorrow’s FA?Cup tie with Cardiff.
