Tesco closes remaining Homeplus stores with loss of 450 jobs in Bracknell, Cheshire, Bristol, Nottingham, Manchester and Preston
Tesco is bringing to an end its non-grocery Homeplus stores across the UK with the closure of its remaining locations.
The last six of the retailer's Homeplus stores will close with the loss of 450 jobs, bringing to an end its venture in non-food retailing in the UK as it seeks to turnaround huge losses.
Stores in Bracknell, Bromborough in Cheshire, Bristol, Nottingham, Denton in Manchester and Preston will close on 27 June Tesco will attempt to accommodate the 450 staff elsewhere.
“We've taken the difficult decision to close our remaining six Homeplus stores. Our priority is now to explain what this announcement means for our colleagues and wherever possible, offer them alternative roles with Tesco,” a Tesco spokesperson said.
The supermarket shuttered six of twelve Homeplus stores in January amid 43 store closures in January.
Tesco will be seeking to surrender the leases for the stores, or find alternative retailers to become tenants. The supermarket ruled out Tesco food stores opening in their place.
