The Garden Bridge just came a step closer as Bouygues TP and Cimolai ink construction deal
The Garden Bridge just came a step closer despite fierce opposition, after contracts were signed to start detailed designs and construction of the bridge and several new planning applications were approved.
Construction firms Bouygues TP and Cimolai will work on the £175m bridge which will host thousands of trees and shrubs over the Thames, which is slated to open in 2018.
Lambeth council last week approved a further five planning applications for the bridge making way for the project to move forward. Construction work is expected to begin this summer, despite concerns being raised over the process leading to the the Thomas Heatherwick designed Garden Bridge being chosen. There has been strong opposition to the project locally.
“The Garden Bridge is a reality," said Lord Mervyn Davies, chairman of the Garden Bridge Trust.
"We are on course with our fundraising targets, we are meeting the requirements of our planning conditions. We have huge public support for the project and we look forward to working with Bouygues TP and Cimolai and all our partners to make this a special place to be enjoyed by Londoners and visitors in the heart of the city for years to come.”
