THIS is the last week I can get cracked into some decent animals on the flat in the UK, but I absolutely can’t wait for next weekend’s Breeders’ Cup. There will be plenty of European horses with strong chances, but the one who catches my eye is Godolphin’s American-based GAYEGO in the Sprint. He has been revitalised by the drop back to six furlongs – a trip in which he is undefeated in four starts – and proved his liking for the track with a win earlier this month.
John Gosden has had a couple of impressive first-time out winners this week and his MAN OF ACTION is worth backing each-way in today’s 1.15pm at Newmarket. He has reportedly been working the house down and it’s always worth following this stable when they start firing in the winners.
Looking ahead to tomorrow’s Listed Ben Marshall Stakes (2.35pm) and I will be backing Tom Dascombe’s PRINCE OF DANCE in the mile contest. This son of Danehill Dancer was awesome on his debut at Newbury, but suffered a fractured pelvis and was out of action until successfully returning at Salisbury a few weeks ago. He will have come on for that and as long as the ground doesn’t get too quick he should have a decent chance. Newmarket-specialist Plum Pudding can complete the forecast. The danger looks to be Plum Pudding, who has won his last four at HQ, but the weight-for-age allowance should tip the balance in our favour.
