Take a leaf out of poker legend Chris Ferguson’s book and make sure you bet within your bankroll at Cheltenham this week. It is very easy to get carried away in all the excitement but it is worth remembering that there are plenty of races to win or lose your money on. Don’t go broke. I’m going to set my rules and report here daily how my ‘management’ is going over the week. So first don’t bet more than 10% of bank roll per race. So if we start off with a bank of £1,000, then the max bet is £100. If we win the stakes go up, if we lose they go down.

I’m not one to go out and back an odds-on shot in the first at Cheltenham. I’d prefer to back an outsider and see what happens. Even though Dunguib should on all known form win the first I will be backing MENORAH who looks to have a great each way chance. Check out what concessions are available with the bookies at Oddschecker.com.

My main bet of the day will be in the William Hill Trophy at 2.40pm where I like the look of David Pipe’s THE PACKAGE. Timmy Murphy will be able to ride this animal either from the front or behind and I hope to see him come up the hill to win by a few lengths.

MENORAH (2% e/w), KANGAROO COURT (1% e/w), THE PACKAGE (7.5%),

MEDERMIT (3%), SIZING AUSTRALIA (2%), QUEVEGA (5%)
