The LCCM, Amy Winehouse’s former music school, is moving to The Music Box on the Southwark – and you could too
Hear the stars of tomorrow rehearsing in the comfort of your own home by investing in the latest cultural centre around the South Bank. The latest apartments have gone on sale at The Music Box, a new housing development that incorporates the London Centre for Contemporary Music (LCCM).
The school, which counts Amy Winehouse among its alumni, will occupy the bottom six floors of the 14-storey building designed by SPPARC Architecture.
The practice recently completed work on The Lloyds Building in the City and it’s also working on a regeneration scheme in Brick Lane. For this project, they’ve created a geometric tower with a glazed brick base and vertical enamel blades along the sides “reminiscent of piano keys that have been inspired by the music college.”
Founded in 2002, the LCCM is the London base for the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and provides degrees in a range of disciplines from song-writing to drumming.
The constant jam sessions are sure to be a hit with like-minded music lovers, who've got 41 one, two and three bedroom apartments to buy from £737,000 on top of the school.

The first phase has sold out, but the second bunch of homes went on sale last week, including seven top-floor duplex penthouses, aptly named The Coda Collection, each boasting its own roof terrace with views over the City. Starting prices for these start at £1.62m.
Developer Taylor Wimpey Central London hopes to have completed the site by the end of the year, but in the mean time, the LCCM is working with architects to create bespoke practise spaces.
Principal architect Trevor Morriss says he’s focused on creating a home that both students and residents can comfortably co-habit. “With music often being described as the purest form of art, we wanted to produce a pure form of architecture with a simple architectural language and beautiful proportions.
"The site is also located on the cultural corridor that links Southwark tube station to Tate Modern and the development will create a way-finder between the station and the cultural offering of the area.”
