COMPANY NEWS
● Lonrho announces today. It invests in infrastructure, transport, agribusiness, hotels and support services businesses in Africa.
● On Tuesday, Allstate, Ashtead and Genus all announce. The latter is a British-based business selling products manufactured using biotechnology to cattle and pig farmers.
● Amphenol will announce on Wednesday. Amphenol was founded in Chicago in 1932 by entrepreneur Arthur Schmitt, whose first product was a tube socket for radio tubes.
● Green Dragon Gas, Premier Farnell, Redrow and WM Morrison Supermarkets all announce on Thursday. Investors will be looking at Morrison’s margins to see if it has increased its market share over the other grocery big beasts.
● Ameriprise Financial announces on Friday. The financial planning company has more than 2m individual, business and institutional clients. JD Wetherspoon also announces on Friday. The Watford based pub chain is named after a teacher of the founder, who couldn’t control his class.
ECONOMICS NEWS
● Tomorrow, the Reserve Bank of Australia will announce its decision on interest rates.
● The Bank of Canada and Bank of Japan announces on Wednesday.
● Also on Wednesday, the Office for National Statistics will release figures for its index of production.
● It’s a busy week for central bankers, with the European Central Bank and the Bank of England announcing on Thursday. It is highly unlikely that we will see any rate changes from either.
POLITICAL NEWS
● Tomorrow, the home affairs select committee will thrash out last month’s riots. Witnesses will include Boris Johnson and police commissioner Tim Godwin.
● The former chancellor of the exchequer releases formally his memoirs Back from the Brink on Wednesday.
● Following a petty squabble between President Obama and speaker John Boehner, Obama’s jobs speech will be on Thursday, rather than Wednesday, as was scheduled.
