More than three-quarters of adults in the UK have now received their first Covid-19 vaccine dose.

The milestone was reached by midnight yesterday, according to Health Secretary Matt Hancock.

It comes the day after zero deaths within 28 days of testing positive for coronavirus were reported for the first time since 30 July last year.

Hancock praised the role of the NHS, scientists and the vaccine taskforce in a speech which lauded the UK’s progress.

The health secretary’s comments came amid a continuing debate over whether England should go ahead with scrapping all Covid restrictions later this month.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson today said that he sees nothing in the data to prevent restrictions being lifted but added that it was too early to make a call.
