NUFFIELD HEALTH & WELLBEING CENTRE
4 Cousin Lane, EC4R 3XJ
www.nuffieldhealth.com 0845 2413836
Membership: £82-£96 per month

Partly situated in dramatic arches next to the river near Cannon Street station, this is the biggest gym in the Square Mile, with four studios, three gym areas, two swimming pools and two spa pools, one of which has views across the river. There’s also a smart spa and health clinic. New members can get a free month or two free training sessions by showing improvement in their first three months of membership when they undergo a health MOT.

CITY POINT CLUB
1 Ropermaker St, EC2Y 9AW
www.thecitypointclub.co.uk 020 7920 6200
Membership: £85-£110 per month

This underground zone of wellbeing is undergoing a major facelift next week, bringing in a new range of Matrix gym equipment, and introducing a designated stretch area. Facilities include a 20m ozone-treated pool, PowerPlate training equipment and squash courts, as well as hairdresser, restaurant and a lounge area with WiFi access.

ANDAZ LIVERPOOL STREET
40 Liverpool St
EC2M 7QN
www.andaz.com 0207 961 1234
Membership: £100 per month peak time, or £60 off peak (10am–4pm and weekends)

The Andaz hotel’s gym is small but perfectly formed, and some may find the smart, individual changing rooms a bonus – they spare you the embarrassment of meeting your boss in the shower. Membership also gets you a 20 per cent discount on beauty therapies in the two well-appointed treatment rooms and at Andaz’s five restaurants.

MATT ROBERTS PERSONAL TRAINING
52 Cornhill, EC3V 3PD
www.mattroberts.co.uk 020 7626 0888

This ultra-swish private gym only offers one-to-one training, and clients purchase courses rather than paying membership subscriptions. After consultations including functional movement screening, body composition analysis, physiotherapy screening and dietary analysis, trainers build a bespoke programme. The two hour consultation is £185, while training courses start from £1,650 for 25 sessions. Timothy Barber
