Kings Cross evacuated because of overcrowding after severe delays on Hammersmith & City, District, Circle and Metropolitan lines

Kings Cross station was evacuated because of overcrowding during rush hour this morning, with Tube lines not stopping at the station.

British Transport Police confirmed the station was closed because of problems on the Hammersmith & City Line today. Although it has since reopened, BTP warned commuters to allow "extra time" for their journey as the closure's knock-on effects filter through.

It has been a bruising morning all round, as a signal failure at Baker Street, Aldgate East and Stepney Green affected Circle, District, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City Lines during rush hour.

The Circle Line was suspended entirely while the H&C Line between Edgware Road and Barking was closed as Transport for London attempted to resolve the issue.

The Metropolitan Line was down between Baker Street and Aldgate, and there are severe delays on the District Line between Barking and Earl's Court. TfL reported that it was still down at 10:30am.

And there was no service between Tower Hill and Whitechapel eastbound because of the signal failures at the eastern end of the network.

Severe delays have also been reported between Clapham Junction and Surrey Quays because of an earlier fault with the track.

Unsurprisingly, commuters are not best pleased.
