Travel chaos at London Waterloo, Paddington and Charing Cross stations

There was travel chaos during rush hour this morning, as two of London's biggest stations were evacuated and one was hit by delays and cancellations after signalling problems.

Waterloo station was reopened following an evacuation after a member of London Underground accidentally set off an alarm. The alarm sounded at 9.01am, according to the British Transport Police, causing red "Emergency: Do not enter" signs to flashed outside the underground station.

Meanwhile, Charing Cross was evacuated after a suspect package was found, although a Network Rail spokesman told Morning Wire it had reopened at 9.52am, while trains started running at 10am.

"Obviously, there will still be some delays," he added.

However, delays were expected to continue until 11am at Paddington, where signalling problems mean platform four was out of use. Network Rail apologised for the delays via its Twitter page.
