Trescothick says call ups show Aussies are rattled
FORMER England batsman Marcus Trescothick believes Australia’s decision to call up two new bowlers ahead of the second Ashes Test, which starts on Friday, is a sign they are running scared.
After their attack haemorrhaged runs and managed only one wicket in nearly six sessions of cricket at the Gabba, Australia’s selectors bolstered their squad with the additions of Doug Bollinger and Ryan Harris.
Both are expected to play in Adelaide and Trescothick, an integral member of the 2005 Ashes winning side, believes the inclusion of Harris and Bollinger is a sign of weakness.
“England will look at the Aussies tinkering and draw strength from it. Australia would not have wanted to be changing their side as much as it looks like they are planning on after just one game,” Trescothick told Morning Wire
“Mitchell Johnson is having a really tough time of it at the moment. His position is under threat and he was supposed to be their main strike bowler. Harris and Bollinger are not express pace so there’s not much to be scared of. England are a stable side and seeing Australia chopping and changing means they are not comfortable with what they’ve got at the moment.”
