Tube strike to hit Arsenal’s West Ham tie
ARSENAL’S Boxing Day London derby against West Ham at the Emirates Stadium is likely to be postponed due to the threat of a tube strike.
London Underground drivers are planning a strike for 26 December, due to a dispute over Bank Holiday pay, which threatens to cause travel chaos across the capital.
If the game is called off it is expected to be rescheduled for 23 or 26 January, coinciding with a difficult run of fixtures for the Gunners against Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool. Arsenal beat West Ham 3-1 in the reverse fixture at Upton Park in October.
However the Premier League’s other two Boxing Day clashes in London are expected to go ahead as planned.
Relegation-threatened QPR host West Brom at Loftus Road and Martin Jol’s Fulham take on Southampton at Craven Cottage, with both clubs hoping to play despite the disruptions.
Championship side Charlton are monitoring the situation but their home match with Ipswich is still on.
League One Leyton Orient have confirmed they expect to take on Swindon at the Matchroom Stadium even if the strike takes place.
A further two strikes are planned on January 18 and 25 but neither of those dates feature any fixtures yet.
