Webber banishes future fears with Red Bull deal

CHAMPIONSHIP leader Mark Webber has targeted his first title after signing a new contract with 2010 pacesetters Red Bull.

Webber, whose future had been in doubt after a bust-up with team-mate Sebastian Vettel, will race alongside the German again next season after penning a one-year deal.

“It was an easy decision. We began talking very early this year and were in a position to sign by the Barcelona Grand Prix,” said the Australian.

“I hope we experience more success together in the future and achieve our ultimate goal of winning the world championship.”

The 33-year-old former Williams driver leads the standings after winning back-to-back races in Spain and Monaco last month.

But he clashed with Vettel after they collided at the Turkish Grand Prix, sparking fears Webber could leave at the end of the season.

Vettel, meanwhile, has denied being favoured by Red Bull chiefs, or implying through gestures that Webber was crazy after their shunt at Istanbul Park.

“I think it was pretty clear at the time,” he said. “I don’t think it was a crazy sign. I think it’s very common. I think everyone understood.”
