Westwood: I will learn from my old mistakes
LEE WESTWOOD has vowed to learn from previous experiences in a bid to land a first Major at Pebble Beach this weekend.
The world No3 has finished in the top three in each of the last three Major tournaments, but missed good opportunities to break his duck, notably at The Open last year and the US Masters at Augusta in April.
Westwood goes into the second Major of the year with a spring in his step having
clinched the St Jude Classic in Memphis last week.
Now, the 36-year-old has Pebble Beach in his sights, determined not to repeat the costly
errors over the last 12 months.
“There’s a couple of things I would change,” explained Westwood, reflecting on his near misses. “I would change the outcome of all of them for starters, but there’s only really The Open Championship that I feel like I’ve let it slip, let slip a chance. With my own doing or let one go.
“All in all I think I’ve played pretty good the last rounds of the Majors, I just haven’t quite done enough, really.”
Westwood tees off at Pebble Beach alongside world No1 Tiger Woods and Ernie Els for the opening two rounds, starting today – and can’t wait to get going.
“It’s probably my favourite golf course in the world so I’m obviously delighted to be back and very excited about the week coming up,” he added.
“I played here in the US Open in 2000 and I played okay.”
