WHO chief scientist warns against mixing Covid vaccines

Mixing and matching different Covid vaccines could lead to a “chaotic situation”, the World Health Organisation’s chief scientist warned on Monday.

“It’s a little bit of a dangerous trend” as there is little data available on the health impact of it, the WHO’s chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan told an online briefing.

“It will be a chaotic situation in countries if citizens start deciding when and who will be taking a second, a third and a fourth dose” she added.

Over 45m people in the UK have received a first dose of a vaccine, while over 34m have received a second dose.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson also confirmed today that England will go ahead with lifting all Covid restrictions on 19 July.
