Tube closure, rail disruption and roadworks: Everything you need to know about the Easter bank holiday London travel disruptions at Euston, Paddington and Liverpool Street
It looks like this weekend is set to be another classic London bank holiday, with miserable weather and even more miserable transport.
As well as the usual weekend Tube closures and roadworks – which run from Friday until Monday – works are due to take place at many of the capital's main stations. Remember National Rail's decision to use Finsbury Park station over Christmas for services that would usually run from King's Cross? Yeah, us too.
So, without further ado, here's a comprehensive roundup of every single Transport for London-based bit of misery scheduled to take place this weekend. Happy Easter, everyone…
On the tube
- Jubilee line – No service on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday between Waterloo and Wembley Park. Replacement buses will operate
- Metropolitan line – No service on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday between Aldgate and Northwood/Uxbridge. A special Metropolitan line train service will operate between Northwood and Chesham/Amersham via Watford, and there will be additional Piccadilly line services to Uxbridge
- DLR – No service on Saturday and Sunday between Canning Town and Custom House thanks to Crossrail works
On the London Overground
- No service on Friday, Saturday and Sunday between Highbury & Islington and Shadwell
- No service on Friday and Saturday between Sydenham and Crystal Palace
- No service on Sunday between New Cross Gate and West Croydon until 8.30am, from Queen's Park to Watford Junction.
- On Sunday, five-car trains will run between Stratford and Camden Road
On the trains
Take a deep breath…
- Prepare for major disruption as the line into and out of Euston Station is closed for the full four days. That means anyone travelling on London Midland, Southern and Virgin Trains is likely to be disrupted.
Network Rail's advice:
If you're heading to Glasgow, go via Edinburgh from King's Cross
If you're going to Birmingham, go to Moor Street from Marylebone
For trains to the Lake District, the North West and Manchester, use a "combination of Virgin Trains, First TransPennine and Northern Rail services to travel via Sheffield for East Midlands Trains services to London St Pancras
Those travelling to Liverpool, Runcorn, Stafford or Tamworth should use a combination of Virgin Trains, London Midland and CrossCountry serves via Nuneaton and Leicester, from St Pancras - At Paddington Station, the never-ending Crossrail works will continue to cause disruption, affecting all routes through Hayes & Harlington and Maidenhead. There will also be works in the Slough area.
Paddington travellers are evidently special, because not only will the line between Hayes & Harlington and Didcot Parkway via Reading be closed all bank holiday weekend – it'll be closed until Sunday 12 April, too.
That means if you're travelling between London Paddington and Greenford, Slough, Windsor & Eton Central, Maidenhead, Marlow, Twyford and Henley-on-Thames, your route will be affected.
Advice:
Trains from South Wales and Bristol Templemeads to London will be diverted via the Chiltern Railway Lines and Banbury, extending journey times
West of England (Penzance/Plymouth/Exeter) services to London will run to London Waterloo instead of Paddington
Services from Cheltenham Spa to London will run to Didcot Parkway only. Passengers can change at Swindon or Reading
Reading to London journeys should be made to Waterloo, using South West Trains - Services to Liverpool Street from Norwich, Ipswich and Colchester, will only run as far as Ingatestone, after will passengers will be bussed to Newbury Park, where they can get on a train.
Services from Southend Victoria will only run as far as Wickford, where a bus will take them to Newbury Park.
Metro passengers from Shenfield, Brentwood, Harold Wood, Gidea Park and Romford will be bussed to Newbury Park, while passengers between Romford and Stratford will need to use local buses.
- Charing Cross and Cannon Street will both be affected by work on the Southeastern network. Trains to both will be diverted to/from Blackfriars or Victoria stations.
Services between London and Hastings will run to London Bridge via East Croydon and Redhill
No Southeastern services from Deptford, Greenwich, London Bridge, London Cannon Street, Charing Cross, Waterloo East, Maze Hill or Westcombe Park
On the roads
Think jumping in the car will help? Think again.
- Cycle Superhighways – Works on these long-awaited cycle routes continue apace. Unfortunately, that means if you're between Elephant & Castle and King's Cross, between Aldgate and Bow, between Oval and Pimlico and around the Oval triangle junction, there are going to be delays.
- A406 North Circular Road – Re-waterproofing of Nightingale Bridge in South Woodford will mean traffic is restricted to one lane in both directions near the junction with the M11.
- Westminster – Resurfacing work on Bridge Street near Parliament Square will slow thing s down.
