The world’s 50 best bars have been named and nine of them are in London
It's official: we live in the capital of cocktails – in fact, London has claimed nine of the spots in this year's World's 50 Best Bars ranking. We'll drink to that.
The ranking, which was compiled by an "academy" of 476 experts from 57 countries, put New York's The Dead Rabbit at the top – but included three London bars in the top five.
Without further ado, here are the capital's best cocktail bars (perfect for drowning your sorrows after sterling's demise…).

1. The American Bar, The Savoy, The Strand
Ranked in second place in the overall list, the Savoy's iconic bar, which reopened in 2010, is not only London's best drinking hole but also Europe's best.
2. Dandelyan, The Mondrian Hotel
A partnership with "the two most bonkers bartenders in the business", Ryan Chetiyawardana and Iain Griffiths, led to a "modern botany" theme – and Dandelyan coming third in the overall ranking.
3. Connaught Bar, Mayfair
Refurbished as a "giant, fine-tuned totem to class and consistency" in 2008, and with interiors by the late David Collins, the Connaught is ranked fourth in the list.
4. The Gibson, Old Street
This Old Street drinking den is known for its brave bar team, who use niche ingredients such as vinegar in its cocktails. It's ranked sixth in the overall list.
5. Happiness Forgets, Hoxton
Another East London classic is Hoxton's Happiness Forgets, whose "unstuffy vibe" and classic drinks menu earn it 10th place in this year's list.
6. Nightjar, City Road
This one is the closest on the list to the City, described as an "all-rounder" with "unfathomably photo-happy drinks" – which, combined with tipples such as the Buffalo Fizz, a combination of vodka, gin, limoncello, mango butter and mozzarella, put it at 19th place on the list.
7. Bar Termini, Old Compton Street
An ode to Rome's Termini station might seen incongruous in the middle of Soho, but with an espresso machine customised to create a "more rounded mouthfeel" and its best-selling spritz variant, the Spritz Termini, it's ranked 30th in this year's list.
8. Oriole, Smithfield Market
A follow-up to City Road's Nightjar, Oriole is billed as a Speaky-tiki bar, aka "high-class tropical". The bar's 39 "expertly balanced" cocktails earn it 32nd place on this year's list.
9. Callooh Callay, Rivington Street
With 28 drinks and a "takeaway sticker album that has made customers into collectors", general manager Simon Thompson reckons "in the last year people have had more great nights here than anywhere else". Callooh Callay is number 48 on this year's list.
