Political website The Canary, described by one Telegraph commentator as “the maddest left-wing website in the world”, is now more popular online than the Spectator, New Statesman and Economist, according to one measure.

The SimilarWeb UK Media Index for July found the site rose 113 places to 97 in the month after the referendum – attracting 7.53m page views.
This puts the pro-Jeremy Corbyn site one place ahead of the Spectator, on 7.47m, and even more ahead of the New Statesman site, on 5.36m.

According to SimilarWeb, The Canary’s most popular article was on an interview with the prankster who targeted Ukip leader Nigel Farage on LBC radio.
The site is probably best known for a conspiracy claiming Portland Communications orchestrated a Labour coup against leader Jeremy Corbyn.
