Wright blast at City over Shaun talks
ENGLAND legend Ian Wright has accused Manchester City of “mugging off” his son Shaun Wright-Phillips and treating him like a youth-team player over talks over a new contract.
Wright-Phillips, 28, signed an £80,000-a-week deal with the Eastlands club in the summer of 2008, before the club was taken over by mega-rich owner Sheik Mansour.
But even though the deal still has two years to run, Wright-Phillips is in dispute with the club, insisting he should be among the club’s top earners like Carlos Tevez.
Chief executive Garry Cook and football administrator Brian Marwood have already agreed to an extension of Wright-Phillips’ contract but are refusing to bow down to his demands.
Wright claims the stance may harm his son’s World Cup chances with England and said: “There’s these people like Brian Marwood and Garry Cook mugging him off, treating him like a youth-team player and not someone who actually wants to be there.
“When you have people like Marwood and Cook, who for me are just a bit full of themselves, I’m not sure they know exactly what they are doing deep down.”
