Zebra Power enters administration

Zebra Power (Zebra) has entered administration, appointing PwC to guide the process.

The energy retailer supplied gas and electricity to approximately 15,000 domestic consumers before it ceased trading earlier this month.

Its stranded customers have been designated by Ofgem to British Gas through its supplier of last resort process.

The company is headquartered in Manchester and has 21 employees facing redundancies.

Zebra has struggled with severe financial difficulties as a direct result of the sharp increase in wholesale gas and electricity prices.

The situation was worsened in October when the company’s gas supplier announced its intention to withdraw from the UK market.

It was unable to secure alternative services at a viable price and consequently its directors have placed the company into administration.

Jane Steer and Eddie Williams of PwC have been named joint administrators.

Commenting on the process, Steer said: “We will be working closely with British Gas to ensure a smooth transition for all customers. Our priority is to preserve continuity.”
