Independent telecoms firm Zen has been named best broadband provider in the latest survey by consumer group Which.

Zen, which was launched as an alternative to the big four providers Sky, Virgin, BT and Talktalk, has bagged the label of ‘recommended provider’ for the fourth year in a row.

Richard Tang, Zen’s founder and chairman, said: “We’re delighted to be recognised as a Which recommended provider once again.

“We know that customers want a service that’s fast, reliable, and supported by experts that genuinely care.”

Zen recently launched a lifetime price guarantee, pledging not to raise prices for customers as long as they stay with the company.

The firm said the move went against the practices of its competitors, which Tang accused of putting “short-term profit ahead of the customer”.

The Which survey of 8,000 broadband customers ranked providers based on a range of criteria including customer service, connection speed, connection reliability and value for money.

The accolade comes as broadband providers race to roll out a new full-fibre network across the UK.

Last week Openreach, which controls the majority of the UK’s internet infrastructure, opened a consultation with providers to agree a plan for retiring old copper lines.
