Rugby World Cup 2015 tickets: Missed out in the ballot? Tickets are still available online…for up to £1,1770
Thousands of rugby fans were delivered the disappointing news today that they have missed out on Rugby World Cup 2015 tickets.
Fans who applied for tickets for the tournament in the September ballot today learned if they had got lucky amidst fervent demand.
Five million applications were made for the 950,000 tickets that went on general sale last month – a new record for a Rugby World Cup.
For those left disappointed there are websites with second-hand tickets available…for prices 82 per cent times higher than face value.
On Thursday the tournament's organisers revealed that ticket demand had exceeded supply for 23 of the tournament’s 48 games.
Those who missed out have been invited to be part of a priority sale a for remaining tickets in November, but it is not yet known which games will be made available.
However, any England impatient fans could also be tempted into buying tickets online from second-hand sellers such as StubHub where prices for England’s games in Pool A range from £436 to £1,770.
The average median ticket price on StubHub for England’s clash with Australia is over £1,000 while the fixture against Wales is not far behind at £902.5. England’s trip to the Etihad Stadium against Uruguay is the cheapest, with a median average StubHub price of £542 yet still has some tickets priced around the £700 mark.
In a statement on Thursday, chief executive officer for England Rugby Debbie Jevans acknowledged the likelihood of widespread disappointment.
She said:
Demand has exceeded supply for a high number of our matches, and the only downside of such strong demand is that there will inevitably be some disappointment when rugby fans are notified of the results of their applications on Saturday.We would like to thank everyone who applied for tickets and anyone who missed out on tickets this time will get first priority when the remaining tickets go back on sale next month.
