Ex-M&S exec Simon Webster to lead Silvertown Quays regeneration in London’s Royal Docks
Former Sainsbury’s and Marks and Spencer director Simon Webster has been appointed to lead the £3.5bn regeneration of Silvertown Quays in London’s Royal Docks.
The Silvertown Partnership, a consortium of developers Chelsfield Properties, First Base and Macquarie Capital, said Webster has joined the team as managing director.
He was previously managing director of The Goodman Group, the senior home and healthcare developer, and has also held senior roles at Sainsbury’s and M&S. He spent 12 years at the latter as head of acquisitions and development.
Plans to transform the 62-acre Silvertown site were submitted in July last year and are still awaiting approval by Newham Council.
The scheme includes 3,000 new homes as well as a new business quarter with shops restaurants and an incubator space for technology and creative start-ups.
“I am incredibly excited to be part of this huge project which will provide much needed good value commercial and living environments for London,” Webster said, adding that the arrival of Crossrail to Silvertown in 2018 will further boost the area.
