Airbus files patent for “stacked” passenger seats
The future of economy air travel looks like it will be a lot less comfortable, if Airbus patents are anything to go by.
The aircraft manufacturer has filed a patent with the US Patent and Trademark office, and while it features several possible designs, essentially seats are stacked on top of one another.
"In modern means of transport, in particular in aircraft, it is very important from an economic point of view to make optimum use of the available space in a passenger cabin," it wrote.

It's not the first time Airbus has thought creatively in a bid to cram more passenger onto its flights – another of the group's more wacky patents include standing, bicycle-like seats which would fit more people in.
Another patent that's likely to receive a warmer reception from customers is a hypersonic plane that could fly from London to New York in just one hour.
