The Royal Mint is issuing technicolour coins featuring Peter Rabbit to celebrate Beatrix Potter’s 150th birthday
To celebrate children's author Beatrix Potter's 150th birthday, the Royal Mint has pulled the rabbit out of the hat with a selection of technicolour coins commemorating her most iconic character, Peter Rabbit.
Following the Beatrix Potter coin revealed at the start of the year, four more coins finished in full colour are being released throughout 2016, with the first vibrant offering already on sale on the Royal Mint website.
In a bid to stir up nostalgia in the cash-carrying British public, the coins feature a distinctive colour-printed design, bringing Peter Rabbit and his famous blue jacket to life.
Alongside the special edition colour coins, the four designs will also be burrowing their way into people’s pockets as plain-metal versions, which will be appearing in change later this year.
The illustrations were brought to life by Royal Mint coin designer Emma Noble, who has also worked on coins commemorating the 60th anniversary of The Queen’s coronation, Remembrance Sunday, and King George I.
Emma Noble said: "It is amazing to be given the opportunity to work with such famous and treasured literary characters. I wanted to put Beatrix Potter’s illustrations to the fore front of my design as they are lovely images and the characters are very well known."
