Donald Trump is coming to visit the UK later this month – and his timing couldn’t be more awkward

Donald Trump is to visit the UK this month as part of a trip marking the opening of his Scottish golf resort – with pretty awkward timing.

Now the presumptive Republican nominee for the US presidency, Trump will visit on June 24 – one day after the EU referendum.

Morning Wire understands there no plans for Prime Minister David Cameron to meet Trump during the visit.

It will be the first time he has travelled to the UK since MPs debated a petition to ban Trump from the UK over his statement that all Muslims should be banned from entering the US.

Cameron opposed the calls for debate, but said at the time that Trump's plans were "divisive, stupid and wrong" and added: "I think if he came to visit our country I think he'd unite us all against him."

Since then, London Mayor Sadiq Khan has said that he would like to "educate" Trump.
