Horse racing betting: No Coronation for China Horse Club’s £1.3m Jet Setting
Impressive Irish 1000 Guineas winner Jet Setting heads the betting for the Coronation Stakes (4.20pm) on Friday having changed hands for £1.3m at the Goffs London Sale on Monday.
The China Horse Club, the filly’s new owners, will be delighted about all the rain that has fallen at Ascot as the softer the ground the better for the daughter of Fast Company.
She beat Minding at the Curragh who has since gone on to land the Oaks, so on strict interpretation of the form-book she is virtually already weighed-in.
However, there was something unsatisfactory about that race and I’m prepared to take her on with two fillies who look over-priced against her.
Firstly, French raider QEMAH will love the ground and was a bit unlucky in France last time.
She stumbled at a crucial stage and conditions were a lot quicker than she would have liked.
The ground will be right up her street and she is simply too big at 6/1 with Betway.
I’m also prepared to take a chance on the John Gosden-trained NATHRA at 13/2 with Betway.
Her stable has been in great form this week and she has proved herself on the ground as a two-year-old.
Remarkably, it’s been 12 years since trainer Aidan O’Brien has won the King Edward VII Stakes (3.05pm), but I’m expecting that barren spell to end this afternoon thanks to BEACON ROCK at a generous looking 3/1 with Betway.
Traditionally a race for Investec Derby also-rans, my selection didn’t go to Epsom so will strip fresher than the likes of Humphrey Bogart and Across The Stars who haven’t had long to get over their Epsom exertions.
Beacon Rock got back to winning ways on rain-softened ground at the Curragh last time and will surely relish the step up to 12 furlongs.
His biggest danger may well be the John Gosden-trained Linguistic, but he looks to have his own ideas about the game and may not be that trustworthy.
