With the Rio Olympics only a fortnight away, stars of the Games past and future will roll into London this weekend to whet the athletics appetite at this year's Anniversary Games.

Faces of 2012 including Usain Bolt, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Mo Farah will look to reprise their feats from four years ago at the Olympic Stadium's annual nostalgia-inducing event.

Yet the two days of action also provide fans the opportunity to get familiar with some of athletes who could emerge as new heroes in Brazil next month.

1. Men's pole vault

One of the few events without a British interest, the men's pole vault will still be worth watching as current world record holder and reigning Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie and Canada's Shawn Barber go head-to-head.

2. Women's high jump

One of heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson's strongest suits, the British record holder finished top of the high jump at last year's World Championships and will be aiming to repeat the feat at Rio this year – a must if she is to steal the limelight from rival and team-mate Ennis-Hill in the multi-discipline event next month.

3. Women's 100m hurdles

Ennis-Hill herself thrives on the 100m hurdles, winning the race on her way to heptathlon gold at London 2012 and finishing second as she defended her heptathlon title at last year's World Championships. This is her chance to lap up the love of the crowd before jetting off to Brazil.

4. Men's 100m final

Expect Britain's fastest men James Dasaolu and Chijindu Ujah to bust a gut to break the 10-second barrier and taste victory in front of a home crowd. With Usain Bolt saving himself for the 200m later in the evening, the race promises to be wide open.

5. Men's 200m final

Bolt is all set to top off the evening with his customary crowd pleasing swagger followed by a surge away from his competitors. Britons Adam Gemili, Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake and Zharnel Hughes are likely to be battling for second place at best.

6. Men's 1,500m T54 final

Another homegrown hero from 2012, David Weir, will aim to exact revenge on wheelchair racing rival Marcel Hug who beat him at the London Marathon earlier this year.

7. Men's 100m T44 final

Team GB's T44 100m reigning Olympic champion Jonnie Peacock is among the favourites to win gold again in Rio but the USA's Jarryd Wallace, whom he races on Saturday, is a potential challenger to his title currently in furious form.

8. Women's long jump

The final head-to-head between Johnson-Thompson and Ennis-Hill of the weekend, a favoured event for the former but one which has been known to cause the latter a headache.

9. Women's 100m final

Britain's Dina Asher-Smith, who won European gold over 200m earlier this month, is up against the foreboding figure that is 10-time World Championship medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica.

10. Men's 5,000m final

Following Friday's Bolt salute, fans will be given the chance to do the Mobot on Saturday as Mo Farah races in one of his world record-holding events — the 5,000m — to bring the weekend to a close.
