Team GB athlete “robbed at gunpoint” at Rio Olympics said to be safe and unharmed
A Team GB athlete has been robbed while returning to their accommodation at the Olympic Village in Rio de Janeiro.
The identity of the victim has not been disclosed but a British Olympic Association (BOA) spokesperson has confirmed "an incident of theft".
"All members of our delegation, including the individual concerned, are accounted for, and are safe and well," the BOA said in a statement.

According to the Guardian, who first reported the story, the athlete in question was held up at gunpoint and is currently in shock but not seriously hurt.
Athletes have since been reminded in a letter of the potential dangers of walking the streets in Rio late at night and told that if they do leave the Olympic Village they should not wear Team GB kit as "this makes you too big a target for theft/crime".
The letter reportedly states: "Think very carefully about whether it is worth the risk of leaving the village to celebrate after you have finished competing…Our strong advice is that it is simply not worth the risk given the current climate in Rio."
Earlier in the week four US swimmers claimed to have been robbed at gunpoint in Rio de Janeiro, but Brazilian police have poured doubt on the claim and have pointed to "inconsistencies" in their accounts.
