Forget the gold medal winning moments of the Rio Olympics, the most surprising moment came at its closing ceremony overnight.
The Prime Minster of Japan appeared on stage in front of millions of people around the world dressed as the computer game character Mario from the 80s (and beyond) classic Super Mario Brothers.

The elaborate set up saw a video of Mario travelling to Rio via those green pipes familiar to anyone who has played the popular game. As if by magic, at the other end, Abe appears, breaking out from the Mario costume on stage.
Of course, with Japan due to host the next Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020, we expect more of this to follow. Maybe with Pokemon.
