Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin want to “normalise US-Russia ties”
The election of Donald Trump can help “normalise US-Russia ties”, the Kremlin has said.
President-elect Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin shared their first phone conversation on Monday night after last week’s election.

The Kremlin said the pair had agreed that the current relationship between their countries was “extremely unsatisfactory”. They also discussed issues around international terrorism, extremism and Syria.
On the day of Trump’s election, Putin sent him a telegram saying dialogue between Moscow and Washington will serve the interests of both countries.

The Kremlin said:
Putin expressed hope for joint work to restore Russian-American relations from their state of crisis, and also to address pressing international issues and search for effective responses to challenges concerning global security.
Current US President, Barack Obama, also started his time as leader by saying he wanted to “reset” relations between the countries. But that wasn't quite how things turned out…
