The UK is now odds-on to remain in the EU until 2020 – and Tony Blair is the reason behind it, according to Ladbrokes

The UK is now odds-on to still be a full member of the EU on 1 January 2020.

According to Ladbrokes, Tony Blair's claim that Brexit can be stopped has moved the market, making it now just 10/11 Britain remain as full members, with 3/1 offered on another vote taking place before the same date.

Meanwhile, the odds of Blair returning to No 10 as the next Prime Minister have tumbled to 50/1 from 200/1.

"Few people have the capacity to move a market like this but the Blair effect means it is now odds-on Britain is still a fully paid up member of the EU in 2020," said Ladbrokes' Alex Donohue.

"The odds of another referendum taking place are also very similar to the odds of leave winning for much of this year, so we shouldn't rule that out either."

However, while Blair might be enjoying a publicity boost, Ed Balls is facing a tough weekend with his odds of being eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing slashed to 11/8 from 5/1.

"It looks like it will be the end of the road for Balls on Strictly. Punters finally believe some normality will return to 2016 and the betting suggests a novelty act who entered the race as an outsider will finally bite the dust this weekend," said Donohue.
