Total makes major UK offshore gas discovery
Oil and energy giant Total has announced a major gas discovery off the coast of the Shetland Islands in the North Sea.
The French multinational company said it made the discovery on its Glendronach prospect – drilling a well to a depth of 4,312 metres and encountering a gas column in a reservoir.

It said preliminary tests confirmed good reservoir quality, permeability and well production deliverability, estimating recoverable resources of one trillion cubic feet.
Total has a 60 per cent stake in Glendronach, with the rest split between Ineos E&P UK and SSE E&P UK.
President of exploration and production at Total, Arnaud Breuillac, said: “Glendronach is a significant discovery for Total, which gives us access to additional gas resources in one of our core areas and validates our exploration strategy.

“Located on an emerging play of the prolific West of Shetland area, the discovery can be commercialized quickly and at low cost by leveraging the existing Laggan-Tormore infrastructure.”
Total's share price rose half a per cent in early morning trading.
