Jose Mourinho receives prison sentence for defrauding the Spanish state
Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has received a one-year prison sentence for defrauding the Spanish state of €3.3m (£2.8m).
A Spanish court filing revealed the sentence today, although Mourinho will not serve prison time as under Spanish law jail terms of less than two years can be served under probation.
The Spanish tax ministry and Mourinho agreed to exchange the 12-month prison sentence with a daily fine of €250 for 24 months, which amounts to €182,500.

According to the filing, Mourinho leased his image rights to British Virgin Islands and Irish companies but left those earnings out of his 2011 and 2012 tax return, “with the aim of obtaining illicit profits,” the filing said.
The former Real Madrid coach has also been fined €1.9m and €121,764 in interest.
Mourinho shot to prominence in 2004 when he won the Champions League with Porto.
The Portuguese had a successful stint at Chelsea, winning two Premier league titles, before moving to Inter Milan where he won the Champions League in 2010.
He managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, had a second stint at Chelsea winning another league title, before joining Manchester United in 2016.

He was fired by United in December after a poor start to the season and unrest from fans and players.
In January Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo received a €19m fine after pleading guilty to tax evasion charges in a Spanish court.
