Former Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn is seeking permission from a Tokyo court to attend the car manufacturer’s board meeting tomorrow, Reuters reported, citing his lawyer.

Ghosn, who was released last week on bail of ¥1bn (£6.85m), has applied to the Tokyo District Court for permission to attend the meeting, his lawyer Junichiro Hironaka told reporters.

“If you’re a director of a company, it’s only natural to want to attend the board meeting,” said Hironaka, who is nicknamed ‘The Razor’.

If the request is granted, Ghosn would speak with his former colleagues for the first time since his arrest in November.

The ousted boss has spent more than three months in prison on charges of underreporting his salary. He denies the allegations and has accused Nissan of mounting a coup against him.

The development comes as Nissan looks to set up a joint board meeting structure with alliance partners Renault and Mitsubishi, Reuters reported, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

The new structure would likely be led by new Renault chairman Jean-Dominique Senard and would replace the existing Dutch companies that link the three firms, according to the sources.

Under his bail conditions, Ghosn must remain in Tokyo awaiting trial. If his request to attend the board meeting is granted, his would most likely dial in by telephone, Reuters reported.
