Waterloo station hit by rush-hour commute chaos as train partially derails

Commuters into one of London’s biggest transport hubs were bracing themselves for cancellations and delays this morning, after a train derailed in South West London.

South West Trains said there had been a “low speed partial derailment” between Wimbledon and Clapham Junction, which will cause cancellations, delays or revisions to the timetable until the end of the day.

Although the company said all main lines between Wimbledon and Clapham Junction had opened, the District Line was blocked between Wimbledon and East Putney.

The news came as seven Tube lines were suspended or delayed during the morning rush-hour, as London Underground was beset by power failures, signal failures and faulty tracks.

South West Trains advised people travelling to Waterloo their tickets will be accepted by Southern Rail, Thameslink services between Wimbledon and London and local bus services. It added that District Line passengers can use their tickets on South Western services.
