AI research company is making a plan for how Mayor of London Sadiq Khan can promote AI in London
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan hired London-based artificial intelligence research group CognitionX to plan how the city can best harness AI.
Khan said he believes that London is already in a strong position in the data economy, so he wants CognitionX to produce a report that outlines how AI can positively progress the city’s policies and economy.
“It will also identify the challenges we face in positioning the capital as the best place to start, grow or relocate an AI business,” Khan said. “Artificial intelligence has the potential to transform almost every industry across the capital.”

He said that AI could enhance industries “from healthcare to finance to law” and that the CognitionX report will act as a guide to identify opportunities for the city to innovate and invest. It will also include an action plan for how he can help increase AI in London.
The CognitionX report will additionally contain of a map of London’s AI supplier base, an analysis of AI adoption barriers, a comparison of London’ standing compared to other cities and a compilation of how firms are already using AI.
CognitionX co-founder and chief executive Charlie Muirhead said that he and his team want to democratise information access through AI.
“We all need to understand what AI is, what [it] isn’t and how we can benefit,” Muirhead said. “All successful organisations will need to take advantage of artificial intelligence, but it is a complex, fragmented and ever-changing domain and we want to help ensure a responsible transition to an AI-driven society.”
The report will be unveiled mid-June at the company’s CogX – The Festival of All Things AI event and will also be available on the Tech Map London website commissioned by Khan in 2015.
