Andy Murray would rather win Olympic gold again this year than Wimbledon
Britain's Andy Murray is prioritising the defence of his Olympic crown in Rio de Janeiro over winning a second Wimbledon title or ending his quest for success at the Australian Open this year.
The world No2, who helped Great Britain win the Davis Cup for the first time in 79 years, has also pledged to help the team defend the trophy they won in Belgium in November.
“The Olympics is a big one for me this year because it only comes every four years,” said Murray.
“We play the [grand] slams every year and they are the biggest competitions, the Davis Cup is also a big event for me this year too, but the Olympics is the one that really stands out.
"I’m really looking forward to trying to defend my title. Rio should be a lot of fun, I think a lot of players are looking forward to it and I’ll be trying my best there.”
Murray – a four-time beaten finalist at the Australian Open, which starts next week – has also confirmed he will bid for a record fifth title at the Aegon Championships at Queen’s Club in June.
