Angry Wenger hits back after Ballack jibe
ARSENE WENGER has angrily hit out at the British media, accusing them of continually twisting his words.
The Arsenal boss felt he was misquoted after his side’s 2-0 defeat to title rivals Chelsea on Sunday when he congratulated the Blues on their victory before adding: “we didn’t get a demonstration of football”.
Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack hit back at the Gunners chief by accusing the Frenchman of making excuses.
But Wenger insists his post-match press conference was not accurately reported. “I just would like to say that I was full of praise and compliments for Chelsea,” Wenger said ahead of tonight’s visit of Liverpool.
“I find it unfair from the press that you take one word from my press conference and turn it in a kind of hope [of a big story] – you did that at Aston Villa, you did that at Chelsea.
“Every time if you look at the intent of the press conference it is positive to the opposition. If you want I can say nothing.”
Of Ballack’s comments, he added: “I am long enough in England to know that the team who wins can say what you want, it is my job to take a distance from that and analyse the game in a calm way with a cool head and look at what is right and wrong.”
Wenger’s thoughts, however, now turn to Liverpool, who can move to within two points of the Gunners with victory tonight.
“I always said they would come back, if you listen to my statements from six weeks ago, eight weeks ago,” he added. “It is a game to win and everyone can drop points. This is sport and things can change quickly.”
