Bangalore blasts will concern ICC
THE blasts in Bangalore at the weekend were not only a worry for Indian Premier League chiefs, but will also be pretty disturbing for the ICC ahead of next year’s World Cup on the sub-continent.
Bangalore is historically a very friendly town, but so anxious are the IPL, they have been forced to move this week’s semi-finals to Mumbai, where the problems started in the first place. Understandably, players are on their guard.
The long-term fear now is that if the terrorists really wanted to make a violent stance then the World Cup held in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka next February and March would be a natural target.
Fortunately, it seems our counties are doing their level best to bring us some top class Twenty20 action of our own this summer as a stronger-than-expected field lines up for our own domestic competition.
I can’t think of a Twenty 20 superstar not coming to England this summer and with the likes of Brian Lara and Brett Lee maybe joining them, we’re in for some top-class entertainment.
Similarly, the county season has got off to an exciting start – thanks largely to the weather, which has helped produce some good, close games.
Here’s to that continuing throughout the summer.
