BBC calls off Top Gear live shows scheduled for this weekend
The BBC has put the brakes on plans to stage four live Top Gear shows, as it deals with the fallout of an alleged ruckus between star presenter Jeremy Clarkson and producer Oisin Tymon.
Plans to stage four live shows in Norway this weekend to a combined crowd of roughly 20,000 have been put on hold with Clarkson still suspended by the broadcaster.
Alternative dates later this year will be arranged.
A BBC spokesman said:
Top Gear Live regrets to inform ticket holders for next week’s shows in Stavanger, Norway, that we will be postponing all four performances, with rescheduled dates for later this year to be confirmed within the next fortnight.
A full report on the fracas between Clarkson and Tymon is due to be delivered to the BBC’s director general Tony Hall and revealed to the public later this week.
The presenter, whose abrasive style has caused controversy before, is alleged to have punched Tymon in a dispute over the lack of a hot meal after a day on set.
Last week the 54-year-old set off on a foul-mouthed tirade against the BBC in which he said the organisation had “f**ked themselves”.
The BBC cancelled the show with three episodes remaining of its 2015 series, triggering a crash in viewers.
