Beaten Murray on track
ANDY MURRAY is remaining upbeat despite losing to Sam Querrey in the final of the Farmers Classic in Los Angeles on Sunday.
The American Queen’s Club champion overcame the British No1 5-7, 7-6 (7-2) after saving a match point in the second set.
Murray, who was playing his first tournament since parting ways with coach Miles Maclagan, said he was pleased to have reached the final and believes it will stand him in good stead ahead of upcoming events in Toronto and Cincinnati, in the run-up to next month’s US Open.
“If you take the circumstances into consideration I have to be happy with getting to the final,” Murray said. “I’m glad I came and I played some good tennis, and definitely it’ll help me for Toronto and Cincinnati.”
He added: “It’s a lot better playing tournaments of this calibre than practicing with my friends in Miami.”
Next up for Murray is the Rogers Cup in Toronto, starting Monday.
