Blackpool rocked by late Dons winner
AN EXTRA-TIME winner from Lewis Guy earned MK Dons a third-round place with a shock 4-3 victory over top-flight newcomers Blackpool.
Tangerines boss Ian Holloway raised eyebrows by skipping a game in which his men became the competition’s first Premier League scalp. The visitors twice came from behind in Milton Keynes to ensure it finished 3-3 after 90 minutes, but had no answer when substitute Guy struck.
Blackburn forward Mame Biram Diouf opened his account with a blistering hat-trick as Rovers eased into the third round. Diouf, on loan from Manchester United, headed the home side in front against Norwich before grabbing two more late goals on the way to a 3-1 win.
Wigan recovered from heavy back-to-to back top-flight defeats to prevail 3-0 at Hartlepool. A Sam Collins own goal eased nerves in the third minute before a Jordi Gomez free-kick and Victor Moses strike sealed victory.
Darren Bent scored twice as Sunderland earned their first win of the season at home to Colchester. Boudewijn Zenden set up both first-half goals in the 2-0 triumph.
Stoke striker Jon Walters scored his first for the club as the Potters beat Shrewsbury 2-1. Tuncay Sanli netted the other before Steven Leslie’s late reply.
Ivan Klasnic was Bolton’s match-winner as they ground out a 1-0 win at Southampton, former Saints striker Kevin Davies providing the assist.
A West Brom side featuring 11 changes from the weekend eased past Leyton Orient. Pablo Ibanez and Chris Wood hit the net for the Premier League side.
