Spanish prime minister says that corruption claims jeopardise recovery
Spanish prime minister Mariano Rajoy has said that Spain is about to exit recession, and that those making corruption claims jeopardise recovery.
Rajoy has said that those talking about corruption are damaging Spain and its reputation, not those who are alleged to be corrupt.
After the Barcenas scandal, Rajoy said that he "made a mistake in my relationship with treasurer Barcenas, and was wrong to trust him" after it is claimed that Barcenas ran a slush fund for the Popular Party.
On the macro side, Rajoy said that the danger of a Spanish bailout no longer exists, and he expects jobless data for July to show that 340,000 less are unemployed.
