Boris Johnson will be the Conservative candidate in Uxbridge
Cameron's star player will be on the field in 2015, after he was selected to contest the safe Tory seat in Uxbridge and South Ruislip.
Johnson professed himself "thrilled" and said he expected the Tories to win in the general election in 2015. The Mayor of London, currently serving his second term in the post, has promised to remain the steward of the capital until 2016, when he would face reelection.
Johnson said of the upcoming elections:
It will be a tough fight, it will be a long fight, but I have no doubt whatever that we are going to be able to return David Cameron and the Conservatives with an absolute majority in 2015.
Johnson was selected as the candidate in a closed selection process and it is considered a certain Tory hold. Johnson, who has long been rumoured to hold leadership ambitions, will be defending a majority of 11,216 going in to the general election. Despite this obvious advantage, Johnson said he had work to do.
This is act one, scene one of a very long process and what I have got to do now is have a lot of talks with people here in Uxbridge and South Ruislip, get to know people, get to know the association better. There’s a lot of digging in to be done.
Tories 48.3 per cent, Labour 23.4, Lib Dems 20 per cent.
