More than 30 members of the public were forced to disembark from a Thames clipper at Battersea Power Station Pier after a fire in the boat’s engine room.

A blaze was reported on an Uber Thames Clipper, as the Pier station was forced shut on Tuesday. Its operator confirmed the station will be closed until further notice.

Uber Boat by Thames Clippers said on social media its Battersea Power Station Pier dock had been closed “due to an ongoing incident”.

The London Fire Brigade tweeted: “Firefighters are attending reports of a fire on a Clipper at Battersea Power Station Pier.”

The LFB later said: “Firefighters dealt with a small fire in the engine room of a Clipper a Battersea Power Station Pier.”

“Around 31 members of the public and four crew disembarked the Clipper before the Brigade arrived. There were no injuries.”

In a statement about the incident to Morning Wire, Uber Boat by Thames Clippers said: “At 10:05am a fire was detected” and the “cause of the fire is still unknown.”
