Bresnan issues warning as England close in on victory
ALL-ROUNDER Tim Bresnan has warned against complacency despite England moving into a winning position in the second Test against Bangladesh in Mirpur.
Bresnan earlier nudged his way to a career-best 91 in only his second Test match to help the tourists to 496.
And he also contributed with the ball as, despite a series of dropped catches, the Tigers were left lagging on 172-6 – a lead of just 95.
Captain Alastair Cook will now be looking to polish off the four remaining wickets in double-quick time to leave the tourists a modest run chase.
But while he accepts his side are in a great position to complete a series whitewash, Bresnan warns it won’t be an easy to dislodge a resilient Bangladesh tail.
“They don’t play as many shots as the top order so you get less chances,” the Yorkshire medium-pacer said.
“Some would argue the lower half is harder to get out than the top so we’ve still got a lot of hard work to do.
“We are in a great position. It has been slow but we accelerated today and we are sniffing a result.”
Debutant James Tredwell chipped in with a valuable 37, but it was the England bowling attack who were credited with hauling the tourists back into the game, and three crucial wickets in the final session turned the Test on its head.
Yet it could have even more convincing had Jonathan Trott, Matt Prior and Tredwell not put down catches to dismiss opener Tamim.
Spinner Graeme Swann recovered from an earlier knock to take 2-38, while Stuart Broad (2-37) claimed the vital late wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim.
