Brum run is over while Moyes’ woe continues
BIRMINGHAM’S five-match winning streak came to an end, while Everton’s problems at home continued as the pair fought out a hard-earned draw at Goodison Park.
Diniyar Bilyaletdinov’s sixth-minute goal gave the Toffees the perfect start only for the Blues to equalise against the run of play through Sebastian Larsson 17 minutes later.
Everton controlled the game after the break with Tim Cahill going closest to snatching victory late on.
The draw, however, extends Everton’s record of just one win in 11 matches and also means they have failed to win in eight straight home games for the first time since 1972.
Meanwhile, Wolves boss Mick McCarthy praised the “trust” shown in him by the players after a 2-0 victory over Burnley.
McCarthy was criticised for fielding a reserve team against Manchester United in midweek but put out his strongest side to take on the Clarets.
Goals either side of the break from Nenad Milijas and Kevin Doyle sent Wolves to 12th in the table after a third win in four games and McCarthy said: “Did the win justify my midweek team selection? I’m not looking for it at all, justification or vindication.
“I have to be able to manage the club, manage the players, maximise my resources, pick teams and be trusted with it by everyone concerned.
“The day I’m not trusted is the day I get out of the door, isn’t it? So I have to be allowed to do that.”
Newcastle stretched their lead at the top of the Championship to 10 points after goals from Marlon Harewood and Shola Ameobi helped them to a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough.
