Chelsea transfers: Pedro vows to continue winning habit with Blues
Chelsea's newest signing Pedro has vowed to add to his stellar medal collection after choosing a switch to Stamford Bridge over pursuing interest from Manchester United.
The 28-year-old won every club honour possible during seven all-conquering seasons at Barcelona, including three Champions Leagues, five Spanish La Liga titles and a Club World Cup.
That success also saw Tenerife-born Pedro become an international regular and he helped Spain win the World Cup and European Championships in a golden period for Vicente del Bosque’s side.
Yet Pedro, who Chelsea pointed out to can also operate as a centre-forward, is far from satisfied and intends to continue his winning habit with the Premier League’s reigning champions.
“I am very happy to be here,” he said. “I am very excited to start my adventure at Chelsea and I am here to keep winning titles. Thanks to the club and the supporters for giving me the opportunity to put the blue shirt on.”
Chelsea landed Pedro for £21m despite sustained interest from United, whose executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward even flew to Catalonia on Monday to complete his signing.
But while United either failed or declined to close the deal, the Blues swooped to sign a player who provides an attacking edge missing from the team’s play so far this season.
Jose Mourinho’s men suffered a galling 3-0 defeat at title rivals Manchester City on Sunday, eight days after being held to a 2-2 draw in their season opener at home to Swansea.
